Westport's
First Annual Waterfront Day
June 17, 2000
Tom and Carl Tripp (the
event's master coordinator) dragooned Cindy and Kelly to enter the 3 mile
kayak race.
Both have canoeing experience
but, neither had ever kayaked prior to this event.
("We must be crazy",
we were thinking but, let's just have fun!)

Here's how the day
went:
|

|
We rented a kayak from a shop in Little Compton, RI. The owner
was nice enough to deliver it to the house.

|
|
Is this thing
really going to fit in the truck?

|

|
Kelly ponders
her strategy as she loads the kayak for the trip to the starting
point on Hixbridge Road.
We decided Kelly
would be the tactician (she rowed for URI)
and Cindy would be navigator.

|
|
We're pumped
- let's get started!
|
 |
| |
|
|

|
We paddled hard, got the rhythm (with Kelly's expertise), and began
passing other kayakers!

We made it over
the finish line FIRST!!

Wow, were we happy
and very surprised at our finish.
The second place
winners were 8 minutes behind us.
